This technique started to shift in the 90’s and more players are adopting the legs as a passive instrument to their swing. Brady Riggs has a wonderful video on the usage of the legs.

Understand the Game

The first thing you should do before starting any new sports is to understand how the game works. I know it must be tempting to just grab a club and start hitting balls in the driving range, so go ahead and get your urges out. After you’re done with fulfilling temptation and your shoulders are sore, make sure you take the time to understand not only the game but also how the different clubs work. I know you want to swing that driver around but if you can’t hit the ball with your P iron, or even worst you don’t know what the difference is, than you’re in trouble.

You’re Not a Pro

This is not meant to be an insult but rather help you understand you must take baby steps before you can start hitting like Tiger Woods. Many beginners have a tendency of trying to hit with techniques and forms like the pros do but this is not always necessarily the best thing to do for beginners. For example, many beginners try to cock their risk at the beginning of their down swing thinking they can make that ball fly over the horizon. For beginners, this always ends bad, mainly with your ball flying crooked or even worst your club hitting nothing but Astroturf!

Patience is a Virtue

You won’t be a pro golfer overnight and even one good day at the range may not mean you’ll be able to keep it consistent. The key in learning how to play golf is to be patient, attentive, and to try different things out. After you figure out what kind of swing works for you it’s going to take practice practice practice to help you stay consistent. So just be tenacious and stay focus, you’ll be a impressing all your friends with your golf swings in no time!
